I really love this time of year. I love seeing the purple of the jacaranda dotting the streetscape in every direction. It really makes me smile.

PS  I've started a new blog- two takes- its a diptych project that I'm doing with Justine. I mentioned it here on this blog a week or so ago. I'd love you to check it out if you haven't already. A new post will go up there every Sunday.

:: tawny frogmouth update- the chicks are growing so quickly- this week there have been big changes- the chicks have been out of the nest & stretching out on the branch. On Thursday morning they were gone! Out into the big wide world.
:: pretty things on my sideboard, a cumquat & jasmine in 3 vases (from Ikea for about $1 each)
:: a wild iris, growing through the fence in my front garden.

granny smith festival

I love the idea of a festival, but sometimes in reality it's doesn't live up to expectations. It's hot, crowded & difficult to get around.

Because the granny smith festival is virtually at my doorstep, I thought I would wander down for an hour or so with my camera. It was hot & crowded but I bumped into some friends, found some beautiful colour & came home with some delicious nougat. Time well spent.

hyde park

This afternoon I met up with my lovely friend Justine. We get together every so often to chat & take photos. It was really nice to see her & I met a friend of hers who went to uni with me. I haven't seen her since uni days (20 something years ago). It always amazes me what a small world it is & how people we know from different parts of our life are unexpectedly connected in some way.

Anyway, after a visit to the NSW state library to look at the Nikon-Walkley press photography exhibition we wandered around Hyde Park. Such a colourful place with colourful people. It's currently set up for the night noodle markets that are running through October & maybe some of November. There were lots of things to take photos of....

tawny frogmouths

Over the last 6 weeks or so we have been very taken by a pair of tawny frogmouths that have been nesting in a tree outside our window.
Over the last week or so, we thought that the chicks must have hatched but we hadn't seen them yet.

I love this photo below-
I took it on Wednesday & only noticed the chick under the wing when I loaded the photo onto the computer on Thursday!

Since then there has been quite a bit of chick action- there are 2 of them & they've been quite active.
We love watching them.
We are feeling a bit like proud grand parents :)

 A few tawny frogmouth facts:
::Tawny Frogmouth pairs stay together until one of the pair dies.
::They breed from August to December.
::They usually use the same nest each year.
::After mating, the female lays two or three eggs onto a lining of green leaves in the nest.
::Both male and female take turns sitting on the eggs to incubate them until they hatch about 25 days later.
:: Both parents help feed the chicks.

ten on ten

It's the tenth again!
Ten photos over ten hours on the tenth day of the month.

Today has been a busy day.
A doctors appointment, visiting a childcare centre for work, dropping in on a friend (who has chickens) to be interviewed for her PHD thesis on policy & disability, discovered tawny frogmouth chicks, picked up my nephews from school & dropped Charlie to cricket training.

Lovely to have the camera with me to catch some moments in my day....

After being away for a week, it was lovely to arrive home to a garden full of blooming roses.
They look so beautiful & they smell divine.

...and it's always lovely to have some fresh flowers inside.

It was a quieter week, this second week of the school holidays.
We're all ready to get back into the swing of routine tomorrow.
