last day of school holidays

With my18 year old bushwalking with friends & my 13 year old at the movies with friends,
James & I were left to our own devices on the last day of his school holidays.
James loves routine & has been a bit restless with the absence of one for the past 6 weeks.
So I thought it best that we find some fresh air & wide open spaces.

The clouds had gathered when we arrived at the park, so our time was cut short by rain,
but to get out was definitely just what we both needed.

gum nut flowers

I regularly drive past these eucalyptus gum nut flowers, so the other day I decided to stop & take some photos.
I really love the look of them.

Some had fallen off the tree, so I brought them home.

poppies

"Through the dancing poppies stole a breeze most softly lulling to my soul."

John Keats

I always enjoy seeing quotes paired with images so for my challenge this month I thought I would do just that.

lookout

On boxing day last month we went for a drive to West Head & stopped at this lookout.
It looks onto Pittwater & then onto Palm beach. So beautiful.

It was a beautiful day and the sky was amazing.

artistic blur

This month's Exploring with the camera focusses on artistic blur,
so I had a look through my archive of photos to see what I could find.

Charlie was jumping in our hallway & I must have moved the camera as well...
his head & arms have almost disappeared - but I quite like the movement in this shot.

In an attempt to be creative with my selfies I chose to be slightly out of focus.

Some flowers with only a small portion in focus..

movement of the bird's wings...

and the blur of a reflection on the water.
All examples of blur (some more intentional than others).....I think it can be artistic & creative.
That's my exploring with the camera for this month.

You can find more artistic blur here.

ten on ten

It's time for the first ten on ten for 2013.
Joining in with a bit of sunshine.
Ten photos over ten hours on the tenth day of the month.

The kids are still on holidays & all slept in a bit,
I used this years Christmas cards to make bunting as I began to pack away the decorations,
a train trip, a wander around,
a kookaburra chased away by our dog  (love the blur in that shot),
a few jobs, a family board game....

this is what my day looked like.

a giant rubber duck & beautiful skies

The other day, we went to Darling Harbour to check out the giant rubber duck that has arrived there as part of the Sydney Festival.
It was a bit of fun & such a beautiful day- I just love all the wispy clouds.
