chinese new year

It's Chinese new year today & with the expectation of seeing plenty of colour and activity, a friend & I headed to Chinatown in Sydney. We we a bit disappointed at the lack of festivities (perhaps something will happen over the weekend?), so we ended up at the Chinese gardens in Darling Harbour.

It was very nice to wander around on such a beautiful day.

It seems that everyone has already written their goals & plans for 2014, , but it is only now that I feel like writing a new year post. Now that the summer holidays are drawing to a close & everyone is slowly getting back into the routine that will continue throughout the year.
I'm not normally one to make resolutions too seriously, or to choose a word to live by, but I am feeling like some things need to change. I need to get back into a rhythm. To create good habits & discard the bad. Things like planning meals & shopping efficiently, eating well & making time to exercise, balancing all the demands on my time. And more.
It's easy to fall out of routine & sometimes hard to fall back into it. I've got a few strategies in place. I need to find my new rhythm.

colourful Sydney

I love living in Sydney, and whenever I approach the city by ferry I always feel like a tourist, (so I had to get a snap of the Opera House).
On Thursday I met up with Justine and we wandered around for a couple of hours. The Sydney festival is on at the moment with lots of activity & vibrancy. We didn't do the complete tourist thing but were able to capture some of the colour & the fun.

ten on ten

The first ten on ten for 2014!
Ten photos over ten consecutive hours on the tenth day of the month.
We're still enjoying the summer holidays- it's funny how being on holidays makes you feel tired. I slept in this morning & I'm still feeling a little tired.
Today was a quiet day, the children had their own plans so I just did a few things that needed doing.

This is what my tenth looked like....

instant film

I have read so much about the joys of instant film on the internet,  so when David asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I thought an instant film camera would be perfect. I love the idea of it- take one shot, have an instant print. I got a fujifilm instax 210, because the film is readily availably & not too expensive & I like the wider print compared with the smaller instax mini.

Well, I found it a bit frustrating. Out of 20 shots, the 4 pictures above were the only ones that I was happy with. I actually really love the photo of James- bottom left.

I guess I have the same hit/ miss ratio with my digital camera but it doesn't seem so when i can just hit the delete button.

Anyway, I think I'll just have to practise. Have you got any tips?
