This morning I spent a few hours doing a coil weaving workshop. I'm not usually particularly crafty but weaving for some reason is something that appeals to me- I love the patterns and textures.
We met in a beautiful space in a part of Sydney that I don't know well at all. I went with a friend and we arrived early so had time for a coffee and a wander around the shop, which is a large industrial complex.  It's a beautiful combination of design, colour, furniture & homewares- so much to look at!
The coil weaving was really interesting and fun, the class was small and  Michele, our talented  and lovely teacher  showed us examples of her work, taught us some techniques and encouraged us to be creative as we weaved away. A lovely morning. We didn't quite have enough time to complete our small baskets but I'm very inspired to continue what I've started.
One of the things that is really great about this type of weaving is that you can use anything: plastic bags, fabric off cuts, wool, rope, raffia and natural materials. So my plan is to make a smallish basket with the weaving that I started today and perhaps get started on another one in the next few days.

  1. Leanne, this looks like so much fun. I hope you'll let us see your finished weaving, and keep us posted if you carry on with this. I'd love to take a class like that myself.

  2. that's so good and it looks like you had a great time. Love all your photographs of the day too

  3. This looks like so much fun, Leanne, and so very pretty too!

  4. This looks like weaving I'd be interested in! I've done some basket weaving a long time ago, but my hands won't let me do that anymore. This looks possible! Love to see your finished piece!

  5. What fun! I hope you will share with us your finished piece and your experimentations into this new creative practice.

  6. That looks like fun....great space for the inspiration to be creative too. x
