my 365

Since the beginning of July, I've been taking a photo a day. Each month I've chosen a theme & used that to guide my photography, to keep me interested and to explore & practice one particular idea. So now I'm a third of the way through..hooray!
It's been good. There are some days where my photos are quite good & others that are very average but I collect them anyway.  There are some days where I really don't want to take a photo but I  do anyway. So, I have now gathered 123 photos of moments in my days over the last 4 months. I'm really glad I'm doing it.

Here below is one example from each month..

July- instant film
August- up close
September- mornings
October- black & white

November will be buildings & architecture and December will be people... not sure what's after that :)
If you're interested in having a look at them all they're over here on flickr

October, you have been overwhelming!

So, right now, instead of attending to my to do list, I'm just going to fiddle around with some photos and spend a moment writing a list of 5 things that I noticed as I took my dog for a walk this morning.

  • Jacarandas are out and they are stunning
  • There are still new paths in my local area that I haven't discovered
  • Some people think that they should practise their dog training skills on Poppy as we walk by- she will sit on command but failed the hand shaking (why is that a necessary skill for a dog?)
  • The sound of lorikeets and cockatoos playing in the trees is quite loud at this time of the year
  • Fresh air, sunshine and exercise are excellent for my mood

Now, on with the to-dos....

an afternoon walk

One afternoon  a week Charlie has a trombone lesson. So when I drop him off, James & I wander around nearby streets (and past a golf course) until he's finished. Lately I've been taking my camera with me in order to take some photos for my 365 project (October is B&W)

These 2 were taken one stormy afternoon...

fresh air & sunshine

I had such a lovely day today, I did a long walk with a friend along the Parramatta river.  It was 10 or so kilometres of foreshore walk, but really we had a lot of variety on the way...mangroves, river, countryside, luxurious housing estates, construction sites, paths dedicated to war memorials, sporting fields, a hospital & more.
When we got to where we were heading (after stopping for coffee & lunch) we caught a ferry back to where we started. Always great to be outdoors in the fresh air & sunshine.

black and white at the beach

Last weekend we went to the beach. I normally love to photograph in colour {because the colours of a morning walk on the beach are beautiful} but lately I've been playing around with black and white. As part of my 365 {that i started here} I've decided to take a black and white photo a day in October.

I was looking around for texture & pattern & light that i thought would work well in monochrome. I do love the idea of black and white but I don't feel I've mastered it yet!
