night photography

On Sunday night I went into the city for Vivid, a light festival in Sydney that happens around this time every year. This is the first year that I've been, normally I get quite intimidated by the crowds.

 I did a photography walk with Canon, which was a great way to do Vivid. We had special access to vantage points & I learnt quite a lot about taking photos at night. It was fun to experiment with shutter speeds & double exposures. I managed to get a few photos that I'm really happy with....

 I did it with Justine so you can see a post on our collaborative blog, two takes, here.

 On Mondays I drive my adult son James to a program on a farm about 30 minutes from my house. After I dropped him off yesterday I decided to make a brief visit to a nearby park. It is such a beautiful spot. The combination of lovely morning light and gorgeous autumnal colours made it perfect for wandering and taking photos.

With my new camera I've joined up with picture spring (an on line course with Tracey Clark) to get a bit of photographic inspiration. I'm sharing photos prompted by the 30 day course on flickr and instagram. These photos below were inspired by the surroundings so I'm sharing them here. It is always good to have a reason to take my camera for an outing.

The last photo (self portrait) is actually one of the prompts from the course that I didn't share in the picturespring hashtag, I don't do selfies on instagram :)

ten on ten

Ten on ten- ten photos over ten hours on the tenth day of the month. A really great way to document a  day. Looking out for the beauty in the everyday.

 I'm feeling newly inspired to take photos because David bought me a new Sony mirrorless camera for my birthday this week. It's a really amazing camera and I'm not sure how to use it properly yet, but what better way is there to learn than to just do it.

This is a bit of what my day looked like....

:: morning walk in the streets around where I live
:: looking up, autumn is here
:: local street art- my suburb used to be granny smith's apple orchards
:: a box of gift cards- a bit of a tidy up & sort today
:: out at a meeting
:: the clouds from the rooftop car park
::cheese & bikkies
::my scarf
:: pretty flowers
:: evening by the railway tracks

zoo pics

I went to the zoo today. It was a warm & sunny autumn day.
Taronga zoo in Sydney is spectacularly set on the harbour  (although no evidence of this in any of the photos below).
 Even though  a few exhibiting areas that were under maintenance there was still a lot to see..I had my long lens so have captured some of the animals up close.
