31 reasons to be grateful

In 2010 I started a year long project of gratefulness. This was my first photo along with these words..

"Inspired by a friend, have decided to document things that i am grateful for....Day 1 /1st feb Routine- Thankful for a return to routine after a great holiday"

It was a great blessing, looking for something to be grateful for each day, even when it wasn't a great day. Looking for little things changed my perspective & helped to remind me of all the good things in life. I started off by just doing it for February but it continued for the whole year.

I still photograph with gratefulness in mind, but didn't want to commit to taking a photo each day. So after having a 4 year break, I'm thinking I might do it again, just for the 31 days in March. I won't post here each day, but might put a collage together at the end or at the half way mark.

I was inspired again to do the every day thing by 'the little things', which  I think is a really amazing idea.

instant film

I'm beginning to feel a bit more comfortable with instant film. Yesterday, I was out & about, so I took my instant camera.  I wandered around a few busy streets & took a few shots. I looked for colour & depth. I felt a bit awkward, the camera is really big- but everyone just seemed to go about their business. They didn't notice me at all.
I'm happy with these- 4 out of the 5 that I took- a much better success rate than this post a month ago!

ten on ten

Today was a very ordinary Monday.
It's the tenth day of the month so I've taken ten photos over ten hours for this month's ten on ten. Some days it's hard to feel inspired to photograph the everyday.  I'm always glad though, when I set aside the tenth day of each month to just do it. It's always a blessing to look back at the day & be reminded that  perhaps  it wasn't so ordinary after all. And, that there is a kind of beauty in the everyday.

I have so many photos of water (just about all my posts this year include water).
I love being around water, I love the way the light dances on it and I love to look at the reflections & the ripples. I love the stillness of a river & the movement of the ocean.
I've signed up to an amateur photography association this year & each month you can submit one photo for a challenge. The theme this month is water. I'm having a bit of trouble deciding which photo to enter. How do you choose just one?

I had reason to be driving by this beautiful waterway on Wednesday, so thought I would stop to take some photos.

two takes

I'm really enjoying collaborating with Justine over at two takes {a blog that we've created to share diptychs each week}. It's quite a challenge to match pictures, work out what connects the two photos and try to make beautiful diptychs. It's fun and creative. I'm loving sharing ideas and emailing back and forth to find what works.
In February our Sunday posts will be all about summer on the water. This photo below won't make it onto the blog but I really liked it so thought I would post it here. We'd love you to come and have a look- or like our facebook page over here.

Justine's photo is on the left and mine is on the right.

This morning I woke up early. I didn't want to get out of bed, but I'm so glad I did.
